Swift One // Hackney Brewery - Boogie Van
"Swift One" // NOUN. British, informal. An alcoholic drink (often, but not necessarily, a half-pint of beer) consumed quickly, usually of mythical singularity.
Unsurprisingly, we've been fans of Hackney Brewery for a while, helped largely by the fact it's in such close proximity to us. It's not exactly the brilliant 'Push Eject' on our doorstep, but it's not far off. That's to say we've observed a noticeable improvement of late from these folks, across their range - and crucially expanding in said offerings.
So when we heard a new West Coast Pale was being made into a permanent fixture next year, we just had to try this one-off, limited can edition while making our way through a bustling Spitalfields Market. Fittingly it was a superb roadie - with mountains of Mosaic, Azacca and Ekuanot it’s a typically bright double dry hopped pale, although quite light it's got a decent body with a hefty, grassy hop aroma.
Initially we got a boatload (should be vanload really, unfortunately... not a word) of pineapple while trying this citrusy, soft stone fruits number. Though, we confess ducking and weaving between street food, vinyl hunting and just trying not to get lost was not the ideal drinking situation! However, there’s no doubt we’ll be coming back for a second round, especially once this full throttle pale makes its way to keg.
